Word of her fame transcended the borders of Bhangarh, earning her admiration and fans in neighboring kingdoms.
One person smitten by her charisma and beauty was a tantric magician named Singhia, who was enthralled by the princess.
He realised, that his chance of winning her heart would always be less through the usual ways, and therefore decided to resort to tantric powers. One fateful day, he allegedly enchanted a bottle of perfume designated for Ratnavati, a love potion to make her hopelessly fall in love with him. Alas, Ratnavati caught him red-handed before she could use the perfume.
In great fear of what she could possibly face after using the magic trick, the princess tossed the bottle on the rocks that were around.
The magic bottled rolled back towards Singhia, crushing him under its momentum.
Before dying, Singhia apparently cursed the city of Bhangarh into oblivion, which then soon collapsed and became barren for centuries to come.
The Curse of Sage Balu Nath
Another interesting tale associated with Bhangarh Fort concerns the holy sage named Balu Nath. Legend has it that long before any king had erected the city here, a sage had been meditating in the area. When the king approached him for permission to build his city, he granted his permission but one strong request: he should never erect the palace at so great a height as the shadow of it should reach his meditating spot.
Initially the rulers agreed and when building the cities’ structures; care was taken.
But the kings of the city expanded and erected the city’s tallest palace which eventually had to cast its shadow on the meditating spot. The enraged sage thus felt betrayed by his lords and cursed the city with total destruction and that no one in that city would live till the end of times.
